2023 was an unprecedented year for attacks on the rights of transgender Americans. More bills targeting trans rights have been introduced in 2023 than in the previous five years combined.
State of Denial is an interactive website that dives deeper into this legislation examining the bills being introduced, who is most affected, and the impacts to individuals, families, and the economy.

As of the 2020 Census, approximately 35% of the US population live in mid-sized cities. Despite having thriving economies, many mid-sized cities struggle with rising poverty rates, limited access to healthcare, and constrained opportunities for wealth-building.
This site summarises public health, quality of life, wealth, and economic mobility indicators across 25 U.S. cities. The site features profiles of each city, as well as interactive data visuals for comparing and exploring the data among cities.
Data Journalism
38 years ago Allison Bechdel's comic strip 'The Rule' introduced us to a simple metric for judging female representation in movies and media. The Bechdel Movie List is a crowd-sourced assessment of more than 9,000 films, rating them on whether they meet the three criteria of 'The Rule', that they should have at least two female characters, talking to each other, about something other than a man.
This data story includes an analysis of the list, datapoints about female representation in Hollywood, and provides an interactive tool for checking the rating of films on the list.

ALICE stands for Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed. ALICE is more inclusive for measuring poverty than the Federal Poverty Line as it more accurately reflects the true costs of living and working in America. This slide deck provides an overview of ALICE, data about ALICE households, and personas of ALICE individuals.

Bee Better Certified is a partnership between the Xerces Society, Oregon Tilth, and the National Resource Conservation Service and is the nation's first labeling standard that certifies farms and products as beneficial for bees and other pollinators.
I had the privilege of designing the seal, writing the branding guidelines and labeling standards, and developing promotional materials. The seal is carried on regional and national brands such as select Haagen-Dazs ice cream products.

Pressed Materials
Powdered metallurgy and related processes are a more than 100-year-old industry that is the backbone of many of the devices and technologies we use everyday, yet is little known outside a small market. The North Central Pennsylvania Pressed Materials Consortium is trying to change that by re-branding the industry as "Pressed Materials" and touting it's importanct to American Advanced Manufacturing.
For the Consortium, I developed a complete wraparound brand to include a visual identity, style guide, supporting educational materials and a website. The brand has been front-and-center in generating increased resources and interest in Pressed Materials among policymakers, manufacturers, and end-users.
Elevate
In late 2024, the Pennsylvania Office of Outdoor Recreation began exploring the creation of an Outdoor Business Alliance, kicking off a year-long engagement and discovery process.
The project required a brand that would make the idea of a business alliance feel as if it already existed to excite stakeholders and ensure all marketing, communications, and educational materials used throughout the process aligned around a unified brand identity.
